Hey everyone! I’m excited to get back to blogging after having been away for a bit. Before July flies away, I wanted to share all of my beauty empties/declutter (it never stops does it) from April to June. I’ll try not to dwell too much on these since there are a bunch.
It probably goes without saying that at this point my primary focus is to do more using up of what I already have or declutter what I’m not really into anymore as a way to downsize and think about what I want to bring in. So let’s get to it! By month:
Mascaras. I’m trying to scale down my mascara stash to maybe two/three (I currently have around seven if you count some minis). I usually don’t go by expiration dates since they all seem fine and my eyes don’t react to them any differently, however you can tell some are starting to dry out a little. The Cover Girl In Bloom mascara (pink tube) was free from Ulta in some promo a while ago. Not bad and I could make it work but nothing exceptional. L’Oreal Voluminous I always love, this was repurchased a few times already. It thickens my lashes and I’ll probably always have it in my stash. It can be a little clumpy if you’re not used to the formula but I love it.
The small perfume sample is by Hermes, Le Jardin de Monsieur Li, a citrusy summer scent. Though nice, I’m not really in the market for perfumes right now.
Poppy Austin 100% pure and organic Rosewater. I enjoyed the rose scent and that there isn’t anything “extra” in it. I was curious about rosewater as a toner since people talk about it a lot. This is a nice product but not rushing out for more, I didn’t think it was a huge deal. I use toners in the morning if I don’t feel like doing a normal cleanse but have two others I want to use up. I like to try different things so I probably won’t get this again. Mario Badescu toners are on my radar after I finish ones I have.
No 7 Lift and Luminate Triple Action Serum. I’ve been more into skincare in my thirties and wanted to try using serums. This felt good on my skin, not too greasy and right amount of tackiness. No annoying scent which is so important to me. Sometimes I used it in place of a moisturizer at night. Not as expensive compared to others but didn’t do a lot for my skin overall. I have a Vitamin C serum I like way more and found one that seems to work better.
Strivectin Max Volume Shampoo and Conditioner sample. I don’t necessarily have a volume problem with my hair-it’s more course than anything. I wasn’t really wowed by this but not sure if it just wasn’t right for my hair type. Had some kinda old skool smell I kinda liked but nothing exciting.
MAC Cleanse Off Oil. This is a sample from a MAC order I placed a while ago and never really liked it. It doesn’t take my makeup off by itself. I enjoy that it smells like orange creamsicles but that’s about it.
T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum sample. I really liked this stuff! Too bad it’s way out of my price range. My skin was not in a great place at the start of my pregnancy, not sure if it was my hormones but I was breaking out quite a bit. This definitely helped smooth my skin out and improve the appearance overall. My skin just really likes AHA/BHAs I guess! If it wasn’t as pricey I would get it for sure but I think I would have dropped the $90 since I liked it that much. I didn’t have to get it after all-my doctor ended up prescribing an acne topical treatment and I started using a Vitamin C serum that also works really well. My skin seems to have calmed down a lot (no breakouts!!) which I’m so happy about but not sure if it’s the hormones or the products! Either way it’s one to remember if my skin starts acting up again. I would try to find a cheaper alternative first.
NYX Full Coverage Concealer. Nice for touch-ups. Creamy and quick. Definitely not a hard core concealer that will stay put all day though. I haven’t used a potted concealer since this finished but I have my eyes on the NARS Soft Matte concealer. If you ever tried it or have a pot concealer you really like, let me know!!
Elf Exfoliating Scrub. Good price at $5 and wasn’t bad, but I’m kinda over ELF for this kinda thing. I don’t really know how I feel about scrubs in general but I really like the one by Clinique- it leaves my skin soft while this just washes away and that’s about it. No biggie if that’s what you’re looking for but I’m not getting it again.
Bath & Body Works Sweet Pea Soap. So I used up a hand soap. It was fine, going to get foams in the future (after I use up the stash I have) since it’s quicker for my four year old to rinse off and a lot less mess. Also these tend to drip on my sink and make a mess sooo foams for the future!
Pixi Glow Tonic. I wasn’t that impressed with this. People seem to love it but I found it kinda sticky and it didn’t do much of anything for my skin. Smelled kinda nice but not worth $15 at all. Like I said earlier, I’m looking towards Mario Badescu for my next toner.
Elf Prime and Stay Finishing Powder. I wanted to try this as a dupe for my MAC Blot Powder which I use for my T-zone sometimes, though I haven’t found it as necessary lately. I find this to work just as well as the blot powder and for much less! Unfortunately the packaging stinks. The lid broke off so I couldn’t bring it anywhere and it was annoying to have sitting around. I don’t know if it’s worth it to buy again because of that, but again it’s only $2! I still have a bit left of the MAC Blot Powder so we’ll see what I end up doing.
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Natural. I liked that this was more on the semi-matte side and it did look natural on me. There is a little bit of kick-up on this product when you dip your brush in but I honestly didn’t mind because it made me feel like I was actually getting product on my brush and using it up. I guess the downside is that you’ll get through it quicker but I actually see that as an upside. Bottom line is that I liked this but have too many setting powders to use up right now so I don’t really need another-yet at least.
Bliss Body Butter, Lemon and Sage. Nicely scented product, enjoyed using it, but to me it was just a lotion. Lord knows I have enough lotion to get by for a while!
Avon Body Wash (3). These were carry overs from last summer so I didn’t have much left before they emptied. I loved the vanilla one and Skin so Soft Original, something about it brings me back to my childhood. The cranberry cinnamon one smelled a little too sweet for me. So while these are nice, the packaging sucks! I’m realizing in life how important packaging can be. These are meant to hang upside down by the little hook but they leak. I can’t do leaky containers at all so unfortunately that will be it for these.
Purpose Face Cleanser. If you know me, you know this is one of my fave makeup removing cleansers! I’ve repurchased this many times. No fragrance and very gentle, though possibly drying for some skin types though I never had a problem. Right now I’m using baby shampoo for makeup removal but I may revert back to this since it’s a little more pure.
Too Faced Beauty Balm in Cocoa Bunny. They don’t make this anymore so don’t bother looking. It’s OLD (I won’t even say how old) but I loved it the entire time I had it. It’s a glossy balm that was a little mauve and smelled like chocolate, it just doesn’t stay on for too long but it was a glossy balm after all. I was actually holding off on using it up cause it was a staple for me at the time but all good things must come to an end. It was a great product but life goes on! I’m just thrilled to have used up a lip product even if it did take me years lol.
Simple Micellar Wipes. My favorite makeup removing cleansing wipes! I love these because they don’t smell like anything crazy and they are effective and convenient. I have repurchased these once or twice so that for me says something. I still don’t know how I feel about wipes in general because of the waste component. That and the price for how many you get is kinda eh. It’s not expensive compared to some and I know they are sold in bigger packs, but I won’t use them every day unless I’m really tired and not in the mood to wash my face. I’m trying to use up a bottle of micellar water right now (which I don’t love either because of all the cotton rounds I have to use) before I consider getting these again, but I may stick with Purpose wash for now to keep things simple. The convenience option of wipes is always nice to have though so we’ll see how long I hold out!
Josie Maran Argan Oil Cleanser. Another product that had been sitting around forever. This briefly warms up when it touches water. Heat products always feel nice on my face and I liked the thicker consistency. When it comes to a lot of cleansing oils I’ve tried and removing makeup, I still feel like I have to cleanse again afterwards. I don’t know how I feel about that, but I don’t remember this leaving any greasy residue afterwards and rinsed off pretty well on its own. I didn’t mind using it up but it’s not something I need to have at all.
Beauty Declutter, April-June
So that wraps up my empties and declutter from April to June! Lessons learned with so many of these. Most products I don’t love but I guess that goes along with trying new things here and there! At least I know what some of my standbys are!
What have you used up lately? Have you come to any conclusions about what you own? XX,
