The Liebster Award!

Liebster AwardI was nominated by my lovely blogging pal Amanda over at The Next Seven to do this fun and insightful post! If you haven’t yet, please check out her blog all about living life to the fullest! I can definitely get on board with that!

I always enjoy doing posts like these-I find that they’re a great way to connect with other bloggers and to learn more about ourselves and each other. The Liebster Award is usually given to newer bloggers so other bloggers or readers can learn more about them (I decided to tag some cool bloggers who aren’t necessarily new!).  Anyway, should you choose to give it a go, here’s how it works:

1. Thank your nominator 🙂

2. Answer the questions he/she has created for you.

3. Create 10 new questions.

4. Nominate around 6 bloggers for this award and include their links in your post!

So anyway, here are my answers to Amanda’s questions!

What’s the #1 thing you want to cross off your bucket list this year? Oooh! Well if we’re talking about from this October to next, maybe start growing our family? And that’s a MAYBE. We’ll see how life goes-certainly can’t promise anything. I would also like to continue growing as a blogger.

What does a good friend look like? To me a good friend is someone who is dependable, has a great sense of humor, and makes an effort to reach out somehow whether it’s through a text to say “hey” or making actual plans to hang out- something, anything. Life does get very busy so I know that isn’t easy to do- I am not always the best at it myself. But you don’t realize how much any of it matters, but if it’s missing….you notice.

Tell me about the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done. The most adventurous thing I’ve done up to this point was become a mom. It’s a constant adventure as I’m sure most moms will tell you! Starting a blog (which made me a bit nauseous at first) has definitely been adventurous, as well as going to Europe for two weeks! That didn’t make me want to throw up, however.

Formal/Evening Makeup Look and Products Used

Earlier this month my hubs and I had the chance to go to a wedding out in Arkansas! Though we were only there for three nights, we had a great time and it truly felt like a getaway, being away from the city for a little (while we don’t live right in the city, it’s certainly busy enough!). The bride and groom of course looked amazing and everything was beautiful!

A little different for me, but I thought it would be fun to document the makeup I used and my overall look from that night. Usually for a formal event like a wedding, I like to do smokier, more dramatic eyes and have a little more fun playing around with my makeup since I don’t wear quite as much normally. Here’s the makeup look I decided to go for:

I recently got into wearing false lashes for occasions like this. They’re fun and truly take your eyes and overall look to another level! I went with E.L.F Natural Lashes and I used Duo Lash Glue rather than the glue the E.L.F. came with. So far I’ve worn these lashes about three times and they’ve held up pretty well.

My Perfect “Fall” Pink: Essie’s Mrs. Always Right

September is always an interesting month- fall is right around the corner and yet it’s still warm enough for sandals and shorter clothing! At least around where I live. So while I love my pumpkin lattes and hayrides,  I can’t quite get there mentally (or just won’t let myself) until later in the month or until the weather starts dropping (all fall-lovin’ peeps please don’t take it personally! I’ll be sippin my hot cider and wearing my boots right there with you in no time!).

So I was trying to pick my next mani shade out of my ridiculous stash of nail polish and imagine my surprise when I couldn’t quite find the right color to fit my between-seasons mindset. I’m putting away the bright coral, pastels and neons for now, but not quite ready for oxblood and other deeper shades quite yet. I was definitely in a “pink” mood but every pink I had was either too summery, too magenta, or too dark. So during my next trip to CVS I decided to hunt for my “fall pink” and found it in Essie’s Mrs. Always Right ($9.00)!

While not necessarily a super unique color, I didn’t have one like it yet and for me was that perfect summer-into-fall pink I was looking for!

I love this color because it’s not quite a regular mauve- it’s a little rosier and pinker. What’s also interesting is that this isn’t from a fall collection either- I believe it’s from Essie’s Spring 2016 Bridal collection. All of the colors in this collection look so pretty as you can see in this wonderful post I stumbled upon!

I used two coats of this nail polish topped with Essie’s Gel Setter Top Coat (9.99) which I have really liked using! To give you an all-around better idea about how it looks in different lighting:

I hope these pics give you a good idea of what this shade looks like! It dries relatively quickly and evenly (again I used two coats but probably would have been OK with just one), no streaks, and doesn’t seem to chip easily.

Have you found any great “between-summer-and-fall” nail colors? What nail polish colors are you rockin’ these days?

August Product Empties!

August Empties
August Empties

Hey guys!! I’m getting to this post a little late-it’s been a crazy past three weeks! Work started back up with a bang: two weeks of professional development, getting a classroom together, meeting my new students and flying out to a wedding in Arkansas (which was great, btw!) has meant less time to chill and type. Though it’s been quite the whirlwind, something tells me it’s going to be a good school year!

If I thought having four empties in July was a lot (for me at least), imagine my surprise when I was able to finish up nine products this past month (OK- six. I found three I used up a little while ago but decided to include them here). And I was surprised to see just how many hair products got used up around the same time! Isn’t it weird when that happens?! Anyway, here they all are:

Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon Touch-Up Cream – I have been using this stuff for years! According to the package it’s for sealing hair and “to eliminate frizz and flyaways.” I use a little bit in my palms and smooth it through my hair before pulling it up or after styling. I really can’t not have it. It’s a staple.

The Versatile Blogger Award Tag!

The Versatile Blogger Award Tag
The Versatile Blogger Award Tag

I was tagged by my girls Jay and Hollie to do this fun little post! Thanks so much ladies! (All please check out their sites!)

For the Versatile Blogger Award tag, give seven facts about yourself, tag some cool bloggers to do the same-no idea what the rules are on how many but I chose five, and include the link of the person (or in my case, people) who tagged you.  I hope this tells you a little bit more about me and I look forward to reading more about you guys! Here are my seven:

1.  I prefer soda at room temperature. People think I’m weird when I say no to ice!

2. I think there is truth in astrological signs. Sure, some descriptions are pretty broad and could fit anyone, but I’m a Capricorn and fit the typical description pretty accurately (organized, cautious, moody…).

3. I have so many tabs open in my brain at any given time and tend to get sidetracked easily. I have to really get focused in order to complete something!

4. I’m lively but have a major lazy streak. I always want to lay down and relax-that’s like the goal every day haha. I say it’s because I have a kid but I’m pretty sure I was like this before that too.

5. I don’t like fans directly blowing on me unless it’s absolutely disgustingly sweaty weather. Maybe this is because I don’t like being cold but it irks me.

6. I have a major sweet tooth. Love sweets! Candy, cake, and ice cream make my life.

7. I’m pretty short at 5’0 but never wanted to be taller (except when I’m trying to buy pants lol). It’s just part of who I am and I can’t imagine it any other way!

Those are my facts! And now I am tagging these lovely ladies:

1. Amanda at The Next Seven

2. Srna at A Crush on Life

3. Ella at Whimsicella

4. Mommy Needs Coffee

5. Courtney

Have fun guys!!

Review: Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara and Color Jolt Intense Lip Paint

Maybelline Color Jolt and Lash Sensational Mascara
Maybelline Color Jolt and Lash Sensational Mascara

hauled some beauty products over the span of August and couldn’t wait to do some test driving!  Little by little I’ll be reviewing them to see how I feel. Figured I would start with these two Maybelline products I had the chance to wear a few times:

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara, $9.99 at CVS. I saw some gals using this on YouTube so I thought I’d see for myself how it would work! I bought mine in I believe blackest black (I threw out the packaging and of course the name is not written anywhere on the tube) in the regular formula, not waterproof.

The wand: curved brush that has longer bristles on the top of the arch, and shorter on the bottom.

10 Ways I Try to Save!

ways to save money
10 Ways to Save
In the world of working 9-5 or whatever your set hours may be, it’s called work for a reason, amirite?! You may be living your dream job, but whether you love it, hate it, or something in the middle, I’m assuming some form of labor is required to get that paycheck!

I’m the kinda gal who believes that any amount of money adds up, no matter how little. And if there are small, relatively painless ways you can save that hard-earned money or maybe even get something back, why not I say!  This is NOT about being cheap or sacrificing quality- I wouldn’t ever wanna go there. Spending more is worth it where you want it to be worth it. But I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like a good deal on something they’d buy anyway, or anyone who said “YES! I am SO glad I spent more on that than I needed to!”  I save when it’s worth it. If a product is cheap but stinks, I’d rather spend more and get what I really want and like it. Know what I’m sayin?

Here are some ways I try to save or get some mula back in my pocket.  I’m sure there’s a lot more I could be doing that I haven’t even tapped into, but so far these have really worked for me and don’t take much. You may even be doing some of these already! This is not a sponsored post, just stuff I happen to like doing. Give some of these tips a whirl and see how they work for you!

1. Using Money-Saving apps and Websites

Summer 2016 Beauty Haul: Doing some revamping!

Beauty Haul Summer 2016
Beauty Haul Summer 2016

When I do a massive declutter, it feels only natural for me to fill up all that extra space with better, newer stuff. Ha! No but really-decluttering this time around has inspired me to refresh and update my stash. I like having options, but they have to be the right options.

Typically, I try new products here and there or if I run out of something. This time however, I wanted to do a little more revamping! I’ll do more in-depth reviews once I get around to using them a few times, but for now here’s an overview of my latest haul (yes- I had missions for this haul, I was intense lol).

Mission 1: Primers

Face Primers
Face Primers

I used to use primers not too long ago. They’d make my makeup look pretty good at first, but I have oily/combo skin and gave up on a lot of them because they made me greasy or felt greasy, broke me out, or didn’t improve anything enough to be worth that extra step. Maybe my newer foundations were fine enough on their own and didn’t need a primer so much, who knows! But I wanted to try some new primers for my skin type and to revisit the whole idea. I decided to get Pacifica Oil Control Primer , $18.00, and Cover Girl Outlast All-Day Primer, $12.99,  based on some pretty good reviews on the Ulta site. Sometimes these go on sale and depending on the product, you can use an Ulta coupon. I can’t wait to see how these work on me!

Decluttering Part 2: Eyeshadow

I have recently decluttered a large amount of beauty products from my stash and decided to break it up into two, maybe three posts, or heck make a whole series out of it! My first was on lip products I tossed. Here I will talk about eyeshadow I finally purged.

It’s been a very long time since I’ve done a serious weeding through of products, so I have kind of an embarrassing amount that I’m tossing. Ideally, I hope to have less and less to get rid of over time, being much pickier about what I’ll buy and maybe do little purges more often as opposed to one huge one per year- maybe I’m a weirdo but I do feel a lot of gratification when I declutter a ton at once!

I decided to declutter these shadows for similar reasons as my lip gloss- 1)too old 2) no desire to use 3) formula not living up. Anyway, here are the shadows I decided to finally say goodbye to:

Eyeshadow Declutter
Eyeshadows I’m tossing

Some themes I noticed:

Not a fan of glitter in my shadows. Maybe at one point that was my thing, but I don’t remember even wearing glitter and certainly don’t plan to in the future. I love a little shimmer and metallic finish, but glitter in eyeshadow is not happening for me.

Reflections on My First Month Blogging!

Reflections on Blogging for One Month
Blogging: One month in!

It’s been about one month since I started this whole blogging journey- nutso!  And though I’m still a total newbie and will be for a while, I think it helps to reflect on my experience, even if it’s only been a month. No matter how little or grand, growth is growth!  I guess I’m doing this as a reminder to myself to keep going (there will be and already have been times when I wondered what the heck I got myself into), and as a shout-out to others in the same boat or who are thinking of starting one up themselves! The ups and downs have been a little crazy, but I think I’m getting to a place where I’m a little more comfortable! ::knock on wood::. Here are some things I’ve gone through my first month:
