Hey everyone! We’re just about at the middle of February and what better time to get to my January favorites? That was a joke, I’m always late with these kinda things. So this is my first favorites post ever. I don’t know why it’s taken me over a year to do one. Empties posts are easier for me to do since you can easily quantify those by month-everything just goes into a pile and that’t that. With favorites I have to think back to what I’ve enjoyed the most over that time. Not hard, just not what I’ve typically done for my blog. So here are a mix of both older and newer products in my stash that I’ve used and enjoyed in January- there’s quite a bit so lets get started!
Burt’s Bees Lip Gloss in Sweet Sunset. I really like the texture of this gloss. It’s not super shiny or sticky but almost balmy. It’s a pretty color- a deeper reddish brown that is sheer and can be built up. I like the more natural edge too.
NYX Butter Glosses in Angel Food Cake and Tiramisu. I’ve always liked NYX Butter Glosses- aptly named since they feel smooth like butter. Tiramisu and Angel Food Cake are pinker shades (Angel Food Cake is a little bit deeper), not that peachy kind of nude. Normally I don’t wear pink pink colors but these seem to work well with my skin tone and brighten up my complexion a little without looking like too much, great for when I’m not feeling like looking super made up.
Bath & Body Works whipped body cream in Snow. A Christmas gift. I must say I was really surprised at the quality of this! It has a nozzle dispenser just like a can of whipped cream, is thick and feels so luxurious. I don’t know if it’s the shea butter in this but it really feels legit. It also rubs in easily. I’m a fan of the scent too-a mix of lavender, berry and bergamot. I’m kind of limiting purchases from this store because I just have too much of their stuff that I’m trying to finish, but I would get this product again in the future. It’s great for winter!
Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer-used as concealer. I did a full review of this product a few months back but recently have enjoyed using this solely as a concealer. The shade I have, Sesame, is an exact match so it’s easy to slap on without worrying especially when I’m lazy. The coverage is pretty full and because it’s thicker I know I don’t have to use a ton. It’s just been so easy to use for quickly concealing spots around my face.
Sigma Tapered Brush. I’ve had this for a while and wasn’t one I was reaching for a ton until recently. Jaclyn Hill used it for setting her undereye which makes sense, but I’ve really enjoy using it for all-over setting powder. It picks up a decent amount of product, has soft and bendy bristles and has a really sturdy handle. It’s just a pleasure to use. I find that to be the case with most of my Sigma brushes.
Sigma Flat Definer Brush. Another Sigma for the win. I’ve been using this brush so much. These days I like to use shadow as a eyeliner instead of actual eyeliner. It’s easier to blend, and using this brush is great for applying. I might use another brush to blend out the line but this is what I use to actually get the shadow on (I use dabbing and strokes) and it does a fantastic job!
L’Oreal Infallible Foundation Blender. I haven’t tried enough beauty blending sponges to truly know the difference between them all but I have been enjoying this L’Oreal sponge from my haul in November. I’ve been using it a lot more over my brushes in January and it blends nicely and is easy to clean. It’s just easy to use and blends everything out nicely.
Ulta Brow Tint/Gel. I’ve just enjoyed using brow tint overall this past month because it’s just so much quicker than using a pencil or pomade since you just swipe it on without much effort. The one here is by Ulta and I like it, but it could be any brow tint really. I just like the convenience of brow gels/tints.
R+Co Blowout Balm. This was from an old Ipsy bag that my friend gave me. I’ve used sub-par blowout products and hair creams that I didn’t realize were sub par til I tried this. I was impressed- this leaves my hair glossy, smooth, and slightly voluminous after blowdrying. Pretty much how you would expect your hair to look after a visit to the salon. My other hair products aside from maybe maybe my Biolage serum don’t perform nearly as well. My standards have been raised.
Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette. I’m sure any beauty lover knows plenty about this palette. I’ve loved using and playing with all the colors, in particular Candied Violet (the bluish purple shade) as an all over lid color is a nice change from all the browns. I haven’t worn a color like that on my lids in a while but it works and still looks natural despite the fact that it’s purple. Shades like Creme Brulee (last row second from right) are so pigmented and stand out amazingly. This palette isn’t going anywhere!
Too Faced Best Year Ever Collection. I received this as a Christmas gift and it’s really cute. I wasn’t sure if I should include this in my January faves since I haven’t really used it a ton yet, but I can say right now this is a convenient set of eye/face palettes that I’ve used a few times and have enjoyed. You can grab any palette (one is more natural, one girly, one for evening) or mix them to create whatever look you want easily. I’ve only used the “Natural Beauty” and the “I Believe in Pink” ones so far. They come in a gold zip around case which is nice. It also comes with a travel Better Than Sex mascara which I never tried so excited about that. It doesn’t include a lip product but I never really need kits to have that. For me the quality seems to be in line with their other products. I can see myself grabbing a palette when I’m trying to put together a look without thinking too much!
So that rounds out my first favorites of the year and basically ever! Have you tried any of these or have any recent favorites? XX, Jen
