My Summer Beauty Routine!

Summer Beauty Routine
Summer Beauty Routine
Hey everyone! Well I couldn’t let summer by without doing my warmer weather makeup “routine” here on the blog! Some things remain constant like the order my makeup goes on, but in terms of beauty products…well, I don’t stick to just one thing religiously, but have certain items I tend to use more often in a summer rotation.

I also like to use summer as a time to retry the makeup I haven’t worn in a while to see how I feel about it. Not that I don’t do that all year anyway, but since I’m not heading off to work I feel even more freedom to play with certain products I haven’t really touched. This summer I’m also focusing on using up products that are nearly finished so I can minimize/update my stash if needed. So let’s go through what I’ve been doing and using in each area!

Moisturizing/Priming

After cleansing and toning, I use an eye cream then my E.L.F. moisturizer (For daytime I use a product with SPF all year round, but especially in the summer), Then I prime the eye area. I still use my Avon one (does the job, but I may get something different once this runs out) or an E.L.F. one. While I’m not huge into face primer, I’ve been using one by Pacifica Jasmine Iris oil control primer that I got in a haul last summer. This one isn’t too bad for oily skin actually. I was thinking of doing a full review soon, but wondering if they actually still sell it since I’m not seeing it anywhere. Crazy since I just bought it last summer. Figures, right?

In the summer I tend to gravitate more towards shimmery golds, browns or earthier shades that aren’t super dramatic or too dark for daytime. While I may throw in different colors in the form of a liner or crease shade, the basic idea has pretty much been neutral shades. I’ve been loving All that Glitters by MAC as an all over base color, or one of the neutral Wet ‘N Wild trios which are beautiful! When it comes to eyeliner, I still switch up colors and formulas. Again, usually neutrals, but I like to have fun and pop some color, or just break away from typical browns and bronze liners too. I also have been loving doing cat-eyes or winged liner! In terms of mascara I’ll use whatever is in my stash (L’oreal Voluminous is one of my favorites!!). And for brows I’ve been going back and forth between my e.l.f. liner and Anastasia Dipbrow.

Foundation

In past summers I would tend to gravitate more towards powder foundation for a lighter feel. This summer though, I find myself wanting to use my liquids or BB cream.  I just like the finish and coverage better. I have been needing a lot more coverage than normal lately, so powders haven’t been as functional.  Even if it’s warm, the right foundation won’t slide off my face as much so I don’t mind. I also don’t mind using my setting powder for touch-ups if I need to. My skin gets oily, so I still continue to use my L’oreal Infallible, but I’ve been reaching for my new Maybelline Fit Me for Normal to Oily. I also have the stick version which isn’t too bad and good for oily skin. I fell back in love with Revlon ColorStay– that stuff stays in place pretty well and has great coverage. Interestingly enough, I like the normal/dry skin version of Colorstay more than the one made for oily skin which felt like a mask.

Concealer and Setting Powder

For undereye concealer I’ve been using my Maybelline Age Rewind or Tarte Shape Tape (I use the Tarte anywhere on my face that I need coverage). I also have other concealers I try to use up when I remember to, like Make Up Forever or L.A. Girl).

Of course I have to set it all, so I’ve been trying to finish my NYX Set it & Don’t Fret It powder, and this Ulta Double Duty which is supposed to be a foundation but I use it as a setting powder. I’ve also been using Bare Minerals All Over Radiance powders on parts of my face. I’ve had these forever and never really used them much, not sure why. Guess I wasn’t sure what the point was but I actually love them, especially the one in Warmth because it’s perfect for summer! They’re not over the top, just a nice little something to add some color or oomph. You can really use them any way you want. I also have issues putting a brush down sometimes and just want to wear a little extra!

Blush, Bronzer/Contouring

For summer cheeks I tend to do peachier, bronzier looks, but still like my pinks too. So I like to go lighter and more natural, nothing super dramatic or deep unless it’s for nighttime, but I still stick with bronzey colors. I’ve been loving Bare Minerals All Over Radiance in Warmth like I mentioned above, along with their actual blush called Rose Quartz which I don’t know if they sell anymore but you can still find it on Amazon I think. I also enjoy Tarte Cheek Stains– they are so beautiful and give a natural flush. I’ve had my Tarte ones forever but they still work and this one doesn’t smell weird yet so hey! Overall I will use any blush as long as it’s some bronzy/peachy or pink shade.

I’m pretty casual with the contouring over the summer (as in sometimes I do it, sometimes not, or just do a little bronzing on cheeks or forehead). i like to add some color back in after the foundation and setting powder. I’ve usually been reaching for my Physician’s Formula Bronze Booster or Benefit Hoola for this, or some warm mineral powder.

Highlighter

I used to wear highlighter just for special occasions, but lately I’ve been pulling them out more often. Why the heck not if I have it. And I’m glad because highlighters are beautiful and don’t always have to look over the top, unless you want it to of course, then you can build it up. I’ve been enjoying The Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer which is more of a pale gold highlight, and Becca’s Champagne Pop which is peachier/rose gold-ish. I also pull out some oldies but goodies like Milani Shimmer Stripes. They just add a little something special.

Setting Spray

Sometimes if my face looks a little flat and powdery, I’ll top it off with the Milani Make it Last setting spray. I like how it’s a fine mist and isn’t sticky. I would consider this as more of finishing spray as opposed to a setting spray though. It doesn’t make your makeup bullet-proof (at least if you’re oily like me) but it melts your makeup together nicely!

Lips

Finally, lips. During the summer, I don’t really use deeper colors on a day to day basis. I’m either wearing a matte nude lipstick, liquid lip or gloss (one of my favorites is NYX Lip Lingerie in Push-Up!). If I want color, I like pink or melon-colored gloss. I also mix colors often to get it where I want. I have even brighter colored lip products that I will use too, just haven’t much yet this summer!

So that’s pretty much how my summer beauty routine goes!

Do you tend to go makeup-free or gravitate more towards certain colors, products, or formulas? As usual I’d love to hear from you! Stay cool, guys!

    1. I have oily skin but this moisturizer seems like it would be good for dry skin too since it’s thicker. It also has spf so worth a shot! Im sure they have other moisturizers as well specifically for dry. Xx
