What I’m looking forward to in 2017!

Goals for 2017
2017 Goals
Greetings, Beauts! Welcome to 2017!  We’re two weeks into January and I feel a little late to the resolutions game-at least it feels that way. But I guess that’s life for ya! Anyway, 2017 may just be another year or it may not be, but I’d like to think each year holds some new and cool things even if they aren’t all super dramatic. And is it just me or do the years seem to be blending together more and more?!

This year, as with any, questions may be answered and questions may arise. What will get sorted out? How much will things remain the same or change? Will I still be wearing this sweater next winter? Ahh. Guess we will have to wait and see!

I don’t typically use the word “resolutionfor my goals just because I’ll never stick with it once that label is thrown on there. Psychological or not, I tend to curse myself that way based on experience. But no matter what you call it, wanting to be a better you or revising aspects of your life is a good thing and can be done at any time! January just seems to be that natural time for me and many to reset things on a more intentional level.

I like thinking of what is coming up or things I’d like to maybe try each upcoming year, but before I get into all of that I want to give a shout out to my blogger friend Jayher New Year’s post inspired me to get my own thoughts down on resolutions! Go give it a read! Anyway, here are some things I am looking forward to in 2017!

My son starting school

It honestly feels like I just had him, but he will officially be starting pre-K in the fall. I’m excited and a bit nervous because he’ll be doing something completely different and getting exposure to a whole new world (as will his parents), but I think the routine and socialization will really benefit him. Just can’t promise to hold back any tears when I see him wearing a schoolbag for the first time!

More conscientiousness.

I mentioned here about changing your outlook and maybe your life (#29), and this would be an extension on that. I’m not saying I’m forcing myself to be unrealistically positive, but I do not want to drown myself in negativity either. Bad days happen, bad things happen, and some days the down-talk in my mind won’t go away as quickly as I want it to. So is life. But I think recognizing thoughts and being more of an observer of them, not being so quick to believe or get carried away by them will be a continued goal. I don’t want to eradicate negative thinking altogether. I believe those thoughts exist for a reason. Both optimism and negativity have their place and I need that balance. But if I can redirect the nagging negative thoughts or use some form of action as a way to not drown in them for too long- maybe find a way to get to some leveling place, I will make more of an effort to do it.

Change it up!

I don’t have a problem changing up beauty products or outfits, but in other areas? I’m def not one to make rash decisions and I talk myself out of things more often than not. That means that certain decisions I make are carefully considered ones. Not that that’s a bad thing, but it’s easy to fall into boring patterns that way. I make specific plans. I don’t do A, B, or C because I’m lazy, fear of hating it or whatever. Well this is the year for me to stop the analysis and get on with it, or have more of an open mind. A little more spontaneity, if you will.

I also want to pay attention to areas where I’ve become almost blind or numb to without even realizing it, and making more time to just do things I don’t usually do. Change my surroundings. Rearrange stuff. Maybe get a new shower curtain. Something. It doesn’t have to be extravagant, but even a minor change in some form could refresh my outlook. I welcome more of that this year!

More Decorating!

Piggybacking off the last point. We moved into our home in August of 2014 and while I’ve managed to get some artwork and pictures up here and there, there are still some sections that could use a little something, or just more personalizing. So hopefully there will be a little more up on my walls as the year goes on in different parts of my house!

Keep on Blogging

My goal in this area is just to keep doing it! And allow my blog to follow its natural path. I’m pretty happy that I’ve made it to the 6 month mark and I’m continuing to learn more about what works for me as a blogger. I’d like to get BeautyLifeMom on Pinterest and maybe get a new layout for it if I feel that continued tug to do so. I’ll see how I feel!

So for now those are some ideas for my 2017! I’d like to do a check-in post in a few months and then again at the start of next year to see how things went!

Do you have any plans , goals or resolutions for the upcoming year? How do you feel about resolutions in general? Do share!

XX, Jen

  1. I love reading about people’s goals & I love your outlook. There’s something about resolutions that makes them seem scary and you can’t stick to them. I hope to keep up blogging this year. Good luck to your son that is so exciting ☺?

    1. Thank you so much Julianne! I can’t believe it’s already March!! Gotta do a checkup on my goals haha. Can’t believe my son is going to be 3 either! Yikes! Thanks for stopping by!! XX Jen

  2. This is such a good idea! I wish you all the best in 2016, it sounds like you have a lot to look forward to!

I don’t really have any resolutions as such but more like a to-do list, and I have so much planned this year it’s unreal, especially when it comes to my blog. I really need to pick up my photography game! Wish me luck.

    1. Thanks Lizzie, and best of luck with your blog! I definitely hope to do a bit more with it this year in some form. Exciting to have so much to look forward to this year 🙂

    1. Thanks Chloe! It’s one of those things that I put to the side but I really do like doing it when I have the time and energy! Have a great year!

  3. Hi Jen! I hope your new year is off to a great start. I usually don’t do new years resolutions as well. I simply write down my goals and aspirations for each month. It’s more realistic to me in order to get anything accomplished. I do hope to attend more conferences this year to connect with other bloggers and to better my blogging skills.

    Thanks so much for sharing!

    1. Hey Taja! Thanks for stopping by! I would love to attend a blogger conference at some point! You’ll probably learn a ton and meet so many people. I will have to look into some around where I am! Hope your New Year was awesome! XX Jen

  4. I know exactly what you mean about the word resolutions.. you automatically don’t want to do it as soon as you hear that word! Love that they’re more things to look forward to and try harder on, than resolutions! I think its an important way to be thinking.

  5. I absolutely loved this post! It was so inspiring. I love how you spoke about positivity and negativity needing to be balanced. Not being “unrealistically positive”, without “drowning [yourself] in negativity”. (That was an inspiring sentence!) And you’re so right! I just don’t want to linger in the negativity too long either.
Yes, to changing it up!! It’s what I’ve been loving lately. I’ll admit the part when you said about changing your shower curtain made me giggle. But it’s so true! It doesn’t have to be this huge ordeal. It can be the smallest of things to change up and it’ll feel great!
Congratulations to your son for starting Pre K! That’s huge! 🙂 Try not to cry too much haha 🙂
Thanks for the shout out, lovely. You’re the best xoxo
I really enjoyed this! Glad you got it out there! 🙂

    1. Thanks Jay!! I can’t tell you how many times I tried to “think positively” only to get more annoyed with myself and then more down about it as a result. It never works on its own, does it? Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for being, well, you!
