Formal/Evening Makeup Look and Products Used

Earlier this month my hubs and I had the chance to go to a wedding out in Arkansas! Though we were only there for three nights, we had a great time and it truly felt like a getaway, being away from the city for a little (while we don’t live right in the city, it’s certainly busy enough!). The bride and groom of course looked amazing and everything was beautiful!

A little different for me, but I thought it would be fun to document the makeup I used and my overall look from that night. Usually for a formal event like a wedding, I like to do smokier, more dramatic eyes and have a little more fun playing around with my makeup since I don’t wear quite as much normally. Here’s the makeup look I decided to go for:

I recently got into wearing false lashes for occasions like this. They’re fun and truly take your eyes and overall look to another level! I went with E.L.F Natural Lashes and I used Duo Lash Glue rather than the glue the E.L.F. came with. So far I’ve worn these lashes about three times and they’ve held up pretty well.

I used an Avon eyeshadow primer before applying any shadows. This one isn’t too bad, for the most part my shadow stayed put. I do like that it comes in a jar so I know I can get every last bit out!

For my eye shadow look, I used all MAC shadows: Shroom as my base/all-over lid color, Magnetic Fields (Limited Edition and not sure if it’s sold any longer) mixed with a little Cranberry for my crease, and Nylon as my inner corner/browbone highlight:

For eyeliner I decided to use Physician’s Formula Sexy Booster liquid liner in Ultra Black on my top lash line (I winged it out a tad), and on the bottom waterline I used NYX Tres Jolie liner in pitch black (it’s a gel pencil liner which is neat-and stays put on that tricky water line!) I really love both! And on brows I went for a staple: my Revlon ColorStay Brow Enhancer in Blackened Brown.

For under eye concealer, I went with my favorite: Maybelline Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser, and for spot concealing I used Make Up For Ever Full Cover Camouflage Cream.

For Lips I went with something more neutral, another favorite of mine, NYX soft matte lip cream in Abu Dhabi. It smells so good too, kinda like graham crackers!

Now on my cheeks I pulled out some oldies but goodies. You can see that my blush was, uh, well-loved. I don’t see the Sephora Blush Me in Rose Rebelle anywhere online anymore (boo) OR the Flirt bronzer in Sun Kissed. I don’t even think Kohl’s makes the Flirt line anymore! This goes to show how long my makeup stays around! But I wanted to show you guys anyway.

I used Rose Rebelle over the Flirt bronzer. The bronzer has the prettiest subtle sheen! And if you’re wondering why there’s a MAC shadow in there- the highlighter I brought wasn’t showing as much as I wanted and since I left my other ones at home I decided to improvise! MAC’s Nylon works great as a cheekbone highlighter! Love when I can sub products for others!

For foundation, I mixed a little of Revlon ColorStay in True Beige with L’Oreal Infallible foundation in Natural Beige. I mix the two when I’m a little more tan in the summer. For face powder I went with L’oreal’s True Match powder in Warm.

Here is a full-body pic of me, ready to go! Dress is from Loft a few years back (love that it has pockets!), and necklace is J. Crew Factory, also from a few years ago!

Hope you enjoyed this overall look- I always have fun getting glam and stepping out of my normal routine!

What makeup do you use for your formal looks?

  1. I loved it! Such a great look! I’ve never tried ELF lashes but I always find it super easy to apply with my Ardell ones! Those MAC shadows are really pretty! Especially the Cranberry, it’s definitely perfect for this time of year. I’m going to have to try that NYX liner – one because I need a liner that stays on my waterline but mostly because I was intrigued that it’s gel haha. I love the soft matte lip creams from NYX as well. I only have one but that color looks gorgeous and who doesn’t love the smell of graham crackers!? hahaha. Anyways, you look stunning! I hope you had a great time at the wedding. Great post!x
